About Christian Ziegler Print

  Christian Ziegler is a photojournalist specialising in natural history and science-related topics. He is a regular contributor to National Geographic Magazine, GEO, and other leading publications. His work is broadly used in books and exhibitions.





Christians aim is to highlight species and ecosystems under threat and share their beauty, and importance with a broad audience. A tropical ecologist by training, he has worked in tropical rainforests on four continents, and for the past 12 years has been Associate for communication with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in Panama. Christian photographed “A Magic Web”, an award winning coffee table book on tropical ecology on assignment for STRI and recently published “Deceptive beauties” a book about wild orchids. He is a founding fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP.com). Christians work has been awarded prizes in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year and the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year competitions, and in 2008, he has was honoured with the Vision Award by the North American Nature Photography Association. His photo of a southern cassowary won the nature section of the World Press award 2013, and his photo essay on bonobos has been recognized in the wildlife story category by World Press in 2014 . Christian lives on the edge of a rain forest National Park in Central Panama from where he starts his adventures around the world.
